Stance Mixup

Simple, stance-oriented mixup

Azucena, the Peruvian coffee queen, is a simple, stance-oriented mixup character who thrives off of entering her Libertador (LIB) and Backturn (BT) stances to attack her opponents. Both stances have a diverse set of mixup options, frame traps and pressure tools that allow Azucena to maximize her damage from stance entries in a variety of ways. She can also trick her opponent using the stances' parries and built-in movement options to dance around them. Heat makes it much easier for Azucena to enter Libertador and enforce her mixups, thus making her stance mixups more powerful. While in her stances, her pressure and mixup potential is great, her neutral is the opposite. She must rely on conditioning her opponent with string extension threats or outplaying the opponent. She must also layer her mixups to avoid becoming predictable.

Strengths

  • Simple inputs and easy to use stance moves.

  • Amazing 10 frame wallsplating punisher to setup stance mixups or keep pressure going.

  • Vast amount of wallsplating moves giving easy access to her devastating oki setups at the wall.

  • Various CH launchers (e.g., ws1, 1+2)

  • Great heat engagers that can be used in multiple ways; punishment, mixups, pressure, counter hits and to shut down sidestepping.

  • Good set of panic and evasive moves to escape pressure and stance mixups (e.g., f+1+2, db+3+4)

Weaknesses

  • Weak punishment from crouch.

  • Strings have very limited follow-ups, with most exclusively only having duckable highs.

  • Slow and telling recovery makes her keepout risky and an easy target for whiff punishment.
